history

of family
The history of The Pointe actually began in 1870 with the organization of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois. There were 36 original members. A school was added in 1875, and the present church was constructed in 1895.

After more than 130 years of growth, the course of Immanuel’s history was forever changed when Florence Bohl, a lifelong church member, bequeathed her family’s farm to Immanuel. Florence died in 1994 at the age of 71, and in 1995 the church took ownership of the 60 acres now known as the Bohl Farm. Located along Northwest Highway (Route 14) in a prime commercial area of Crystal Lake, the property was sold in 1998 and developed into a retail center named the Bohl Farm Marketplace.

When Immanuel sold the Bohl Farm, it retained half an acre for the purpose of building a Christian outreach center in memory of Florence Bohl. The building would be used for both ministry and community service. Construction began in November 2002, and in February 2003, The Pointe opened its doors.

Florance

The Pointe is an enduring tribute to Florence Bohl’s extraordinary generosity and Christian spirit. In building The Pointe, Immanuel’s primary goal is to share Florence’s wonderful gift with others by offering a place where their spiritual, social, civic and business needs are met.
